Nutec Wendy Houses

Nutec is a man-made product made by compressing fibers with portland cement to create a durable, water and UV resistant board that is ideal for cladding timber framed structures such as Wendy houses. We offer two styles of Nutec finish:

Overlapped handiplanks

Overlapped handiplanks are narrow strips of Nutec made to look like traditional wooden boards that have been painted. The boards are overlapped in a horizontal fashion so that water will run down the outside of the structure without being able to penetrate under the boards.

The advantage of this type of cladding is that it looks better and lasts longer, with maintenance being: if one plank fails it can easily be replace.

Flat panel

With a flat panel clad wendy large sheets of Nutec are used to create a flat outside wall. This is an easier construction method, and materials are slightly less expensive than overlapped handiplanks, keeping the overall cost of the building down.

However, the finish is not as good looking, and any problems in the future with a small section of board means that the whole board will need replacing and then the matching into the rest of the structure.

What is Nutec?

Nutec is a tradename for a man-made board, made by compressing a mixture of fibers with Portland cement. The resulting board is highly durable and long lasting for outdoor applications. It retains its integrity even in thin cross-sections, but isn’t very structurally strong. Do I need planning permission?

Usually, yes, sometimes, no. You should check with your local municipal planning office, or building inspector. A small storage shed may only need your neighbours permission at most, a large living space will require a full building application like any other large project.

Do people build without planning permission- yes, all the time, and in some areas they get away with it, and in some areas they don’t. Getting the correct planning permission is your responsibility and you are liable for any and all consequences resulting from do this incorrectly. The consequences of not getting planning permission are that you may have to remove the structure and pay a hefty fine.
